“
A trip to Cuba requires a lot of exchange and preparation. My role is to help travelers lay the right foundations, so that their on-the-ground experience is simple, human, and true to their wishes.

— Thierry

Thierry supports travelers from the first exchanges with Cuba Criolla. Even before departure, he takes time to listen to their wishes, understand the desired pace, and answer practical questions that help build a serene and well-suited trip. His role is essential in preparing the stay: acting as a link between travelers and the local team in Cuba, conveying expectations, adjusting requests, and ensuring each project remains true to the agency's spirit. Thierry knows the philosophy of Cuba Criolla perfectly, founded on encounters, immersion in local life, and discovery of a living country, far from impersonal circuits. Available and attentive, he helps each person imagine a smooth, personalized, and coherent trip, before letting Cuban guides and drivers take over on the ground.

Everything you need to know about Cuba

Our local experts share their knowledge to prepare your trip.

When to visit Cuba?

The best time to travel to Cuba stretches from December to April: clear skies, temperatures around 26°C, warm waters along the northern coast and ideal evenings on the Malecón. May marks the return of tropical showers, brief but heavy, and you enter the cyclone season between August and October, which should be avoided for a structured Cuba itinerary. Music lovers should aim for February for the Habano Festival or July for the Santiago Carnival, despite the humid heat of the Oriente. If you're traveling to Cuba during high season, it's best to plan ahead: Viñales, Trinidad and Cayo Levisa fill up quickly between Christmas and mid-March.

How much budget should you plan for a trip to Cuba?

Cuba's travel budget often surprises: cheaper than English-speaking Caribbean destinations, yet more demanding than imagined since the economic crisis. Budget around €1,800 to €2,500 per person for two weeks, international flights included, staying in casa particular and traveling with a private driver. State-run hotels in Havana or Varadero increase costs, while casas, around €30 to €45 per night with breakfast included, remain the most fair option—both humanly and financially. Bring cash in euros: French bank cards work poorly on the island. A paladar dinner runs about €15, a mojito €3, a Viazul trip Havana-Trinidad under €30.

Why organize your trip with a local agency in Cuba?

Cuba doesn't book like any other destination. Unreliable internet, accommodations unavailable online, fuel shortages, last-minute itinerary changes—working with a local agency in Cuba means avoiding turning your vacation into an obstacle course. Our English-speaking team, based in Havana, personally knows the families running casas in Trinidad, the naturalist guides in Viñales, and the drivers keeping those 1955 Chevrolets on the road. We adjust programs based on ground realities, negotiate on the spot when unexpected issues arise, and slip insider addresses into your days—ones you won't find in printed guides. It's also the most direct way to ensure your money truly benefits the Cubans welcoming you.

What to see on a Cuba tour?

Old Havana remains the obvious starting point, with its ochre facades, the bookstalls of Plaza de Armas and impromptu concerts on Mercaderes Street. Many then head west to the Viñales Valley, where limestone mogotes dominate tobacco fields worked by plough. Head southeast: French-influenced Cienfuegos, then Trinidad with its cobblestones and the Sierra del Escambray for a few hikes to the waterfalls. Travellers with three weeks to spare can extend to Camagüey and Santiago, more African in feel, more rhythmic, the birthplace of Cuban son. For nature lovers, Cayo Jutías or the Zapata Peninsula offer valuable contrasts between urban stops. A Cuba itinerary can be designed as a loop or linear route, depending on your available time.

For a customized quality trip, budget between 150 and 260 euros per day and per person, including accommodation (casas particulares or hotels), meals, internal transport and activities. International flights (600-1000 euros round-trip) are additional. Bring cash: foreign cards are unreliable.
